Go to setup and make sure that power management is set to ACPI only and HD needs to be set at UDMA MODE 5 instead of PIO 4. In device manager check DMA box for disk drive GERERIC IDE DISK TYPE 47 If you have PNP BIOS it needs to be removed and make sure ACPI BIOS is used. You may need to get a toggle utility from the HD manufacturer, it will be a self extracting file that will need to be put on a floppy so you can boot from it, also make sure that the 40 pin 80 conductor cable has the blue end plugged into the motherboard and the black end is plugged into the HD.
