: I am trying to edit video using Premiere 6.0 on a SONY VAIO, running Windows XP Home Edition. PII 300 ?
You will run into nothing but problems, I'm afraid your PC is not anywhere near even minimum spec for video editing, apart from the fact you have plenty of HDD. Turning DMA on only allows a small increase in speed\performance because the CPU isn't needed for transfers from IDE devices, with your CPU you really wont see any difference.
As a rough guide most editing packages recommend a minimum of a 1Gb CPU Athlon or PIII, with 256Mb RAM (512 prefered) and plenty of HDD space with a reasonable display card with 32MB Vram. Even at that you will be running slow, mostly a SCSI drive is essential and I wouldn't(don't) edit with less than an Athlon 1.4 and 512RAM with a KT133 chipset board, a Geforce 3 Ti and an ATA 100 HDD(I,m still stuck with IDE but its ok with the other hardware, could be quicker though!)
