New HARD DRIVE, BIOS upgrade, or motherboard?????

I bought a second hard drive (60GB) to go with my present 13 GB hard drive. I tried installing it and my BIOS did not recognize it. I also tried installing a 256MB RAM PC-100 stick to go with my 128MB stick and it wouldn't take it. The computer wouldn't even boot up. Even when I just used the new stick without the old one.
I have a Proteva computer: 500Mhz, Pentium III, 128MB RAM. My BIOS is Award Modular v. 4.51PG. And I have a UDMA 33.
What do I do? Do I just upgrade my BIOS or do I need a new motherboard or do I need an ATA? Do I need to just get a 128MB stick of RAM to go w/the first one. I'm trying to go the route that will cost me the least money at this point. Your help will be greatly appreciated.
