: : hello ,
: : My pc was affected with a boot sector virus with the name Polyboot-b* and in the process of deleting it i ran fdisk /mbr a number of times and each time on restarting, the Anti virus would detect it again ...... now this happened for 5-6 times after which the BIOS now cannot detect the hard disk ...... try what ever I may but the BIOS is not able to detect the hard disk ............. can anybody suggest a work around for this .....

: : NOTE: I have tried a few optons like the PC cillin rescue disk and tomsrtbt rescue disk and Seagate disk wizard but the result is BIOS still cannot identify the hard disk .......

: Sounds like you have a Seagate HDD and it sounds like something (like the IDE cable) may have come loose - try removing and FIRMLY reseating the IDE cable at both ends - and the power plug, too.

: If a virus scanner cannot remove the virus (and fdisk/mbr didn't either) then an option that WILL WORK is to completely erase the disk with the maker's diagnostic function (usually misnamed "low level format") that overwrites the entire disk with zeroes. Needless to say, this will wipe out all of your files - BUT unless you kill the virus first you will contaminate every file you try to "save".
: Good Luck,
: Henry
