: Just a note, you do not need to get a new card. All hard drive manufacturers have software patches for their drives to override the limits in the BIOS. This could be a simpler solution.

: Just search google for your manufacturer and install and BIOS and it should be there. You can also try:

I must disagree with suggesting a drive overlay program. For what it is worth, I STRONGLY RECOMMEND AGAINST using any drive overlay program, regardless of the source (except as a LAST RESORT when NOTHING else works). Reasons:
1. Overlays sometimes conflict with BIOS (compaq for sure)
2. Overlay often does not support different make or different model drives on the same PC
3. It is Difficult to recover data from an overlay drive to a normal (BIOS supported) HDD using another PC (if yours fails). Usually you can see one drive or the other but NOT both at the sme time.

If, as a LAST RESORT ONLY, you MUST use a drive overlay to get HDD support - make certain that you have a RELIABLE file backup procedure in place and you use it as if the HDD or PC will fail within the next few hours. The rule should be: If anything you want is on a computer - take a copy of it with you.

You can find some good information about drive overlays and problems removing them at: [FAQs 29, 30 & on]
and: [Select Product Support, Desktop (ATA) Drives then Technical Procedures] [Read Docs 24003, 24006, 24019, 24020]

Hope this helps,
