: Hi,

: I have an older toshiba laptop. It is a sattellite pro 465cdx. I am looking to upgrade the hard drive and have purchased a new drive. However, after replacing the hard drive with the new one and trying to reboot an error message comes up that says bad check sum (CMOS). So I replaced the new drive with the old drive and the error message occurs again. Does anyone know what the error is and how I might fix it?

Sounds like your CMOS Settings changed. If your laptop works like a desktop just enter CMOS Setup, set date andd time, autodetect the HDD, choose default settings, SAVE settings and exit. That would fix a desktop. Your CMOS battery could be gewtting weak or you may have loosened it when you were working on it.

Your next hurdle will be to get the PC to recognize your new HDD - you may have BIOS limits that don't show up until you try to detect the drive.

Good Luck,
Henry
