: : : : : I have an ABIT motherboard with the NV revision BIOS. I can see the 40 Gb drive in the BIOS, but I have to use the Dynamic Drive Overlay in order to see the entire drive in Windows 98. I'm trying to dual boot win98 and NT, but so far NT refuses to play.
: : : : : I don't think NT likes the DDO S/W.

: : : : : I have moved and formatted partitions with Partition Magic and tried every combination, but NT just loads the first part with the install disks, then crashes as soon as it reboots and has to access the drive.

: : : : : A simple question ... Can NT be loaded on a drive which has to use Dynamic Drive Overlays to be seen?

: : : : Which DDO are you using?
: : : : Does the DDO Documentation mention NT4?
: : : : Which NT4 SP are you using?

: : : : I don't understand WHY win98 won't see the full capacity if the BIOS sees it all. I STRONGLY recommend avoiding DDOs if at all possible - use as a last resort only. Note that there are some large HDD support issues that have been fixed by recent win98 patches. Suggest that you find and read Maxtor's Doc 30004 (DDO Q&As) and check microsoft knowledge base for fdisk, format and scandisk updates for large HDDs. I think you are running into OS limits complicated by the dual boot you want to use.

: : : I'm using MaxBlast 1.27S Software from Maxtor
: : : When I disable it the win 98 partition won't boot
: : : When I put it back in it boots fine, but I can't install NT
: : : I just downloaded the Microsoft ATAPI Service Pack 4 IDE Driver. I created my new 2Gb partition in front on my win 98 2Gb partition and set it to a Primary FAT partition. I then rebooted and tested win98 ... it loaded fine ..I then made the new partition active and visible and rebooted with the NT boot disk in. NT then started installing ... when it came to the IDE search, I pressed S and inserted my new Microsoft ATAPI Service Pack 4 IDE Driver... it happily accepted it and went through to selecting the partition. I then asked it to install NT on the new partition and format it as FAT. it did so but when it rebooted there was no OS! So I installed the MAXBLAST DDO software again on that partition. When I rebooted this time, it saw the disk and started to load NT .... then it crashed with a screen full of crap and a message STOP INACCESSABLE BOOT DEVICE....... I give up !!!
: : : Perhaps if I put an old 5Gb drive in and use that to boot both OS's, I can then have my 40Gb drive as a 2nd drive....I wonder if NT (SP5) will see it then? .... Hey ... I could be that lucky ... couldn't I ??

: : Thanks for the feedback - even tho you can see the drive in CMOS Setup - MAYBE BIOS doesn't support your large HDD correctly (BIOS bug or ...). Suggest that you try an ATA/66 card (about $20 USD) that provides HDD support up to about 128 GB. You should see the full capacity of the drive in CMOS Setup and in windows if you use the ATA/66 card.

: Thanks Henry, ... appreciate your help.
: Yes, I have allways been a bit iify about the BIOS on my motherboard (ABIT BH6) I did upgrade it just to be able to see the drive, and that worked ... (sort of ...well at least I could see the drive , which was more han I coud do before I put the new BIOS in), but there is a cryptic comment on the BIOS revision on ABIT's web site that doesn't leave one witha great deal of confidence that the upgrade would actually work .. it's something like ... "well this BIOS will see 40 Gb drives but we it probably won't be ble to identify them exactly as there is only one 40Gb drive available when this BIOS was created".
: The BIOS I upgraded to was actually about the 3rd ot 4th latest BIOS available annd I chose it because it mentioned 40Gb drives specifically, however I have been advised to try the SS revision which is the latest. My only problem with that is that the ABIT FTP site has ben down for the past couple of days .....

: Regards,

I think you are on the right track with the latest BIOS update.

This ftp site seems to be working:

Good Luck,
