: I have an Acer Acros running on Windows 98. The video settings have been screwed up such that the monitor display is useless for doing anything in Windows. I have tried to boot up using a diagnostic disk in the FDD, but my computer will only boot up on the hard disk. I have configured the BIOS for boot on A first, then C. I tried the configuration "boot on A only" and I get an error message- "insert system disk" even though the disk is installed. I tried swapping out my FDD figuring it was maybe bad, but I get the same result. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

Are you CERTAIN that your diagnostic disk is bootable? Tried it in another PC? Is the FDD on the very last connector on the cable? Is the FDD described correctly in CMOS? Tried installing a second FDD (installed in CMOS, too) to see which one tried to read the floppy? Tried disconnecting the HDD (just unplug the power connector)? Any luck?
