I have a hard disk, which is Quantum Fireball Plus KX,
and its capacity is 40G. But now it is detected as 230G in windows 98, Does anybody has any idea?

1, It seems to be not caused by BIOS
The hard disk is installed inside Gateway brand compter, which is PIII 550, I have updated BIOS version to latest one. I set to automatically
detect the IDE, but no capacity information was displayed in BIOS.

2. When I formatting the harddisk on DOS mode,
after type "format" and before proceeding, there
is some information indicating that the capacity of
the hard disk is 40G, but it took long time to finish
formatting the disk. Once formatting finished, the
information indicates that the capacity is 230G.

3. I bought this computer two years ago, it seemed that
230G hard disk did not exist at that time.

4. When installing windows 98, there is some error message during scanning disk. I skipped scandisk and
succeeded installing windows 98, then I installed
many software.

It seems that all those software work well, but I just
worry about the capacity. It will be a big loss once the harddisk fail someday.

I hope somebody may help find the cause!

Thanks.
