: I have a Samsung VM7000 series laptop, and the hard drive (10GB IBM Travelstar) has just died. I'm looking at websites to find a replacement, but I have one question.

: On the box of the laptop, it says the hard drive is UDMA 33. On a website I'm looking at, all the hard drives listed (it's not a large list) are UDMA 100. Would they be compatible or do I need to find a UDMA 33 drive?

: Thanks,
: Sully

UDMA 100 HDDs will operate OK on a DMA/33 IDE port; performance would be less than UDMA 100 BUT at least as fast, maybe faster than, your old HDD. You MAY need to tweak the UDMA mode of the new HDD to match the laptop; check for a UDMA Mode utility on the HDD maker's web site.

Hope this helps,
Henry
