While I don't have any statistics to back me up, I can give an annecdotal reply.

I replaced my 10GB-7200-FAT32 HD with a new 80GB-7200-NTFS HD partitioned into three partitions - one 4GB for WinXP OS, one 39GB for programs and 1 31GB for data. I reinstalled the old 10GB as slave and reformatted it from FAT32 to NTFS.

So far I can tell no discernable difference in drive speed between the two drives. Nor can I tell any difference in the speed of the old drive since I converted from FAT32 to NTFS.

FYI I'm runnning a Dell 450Mhz desktop with 384MB RAM.

: Is NTFS slower than FAT32?

: Does the size of your partitions make reading and writing slower (or faster)?

: What is the normal speed of a 7200rpm and 5400rpm drive? (please state whether the test was a sequential read, random write, etc....)

: All comments welcome

: Thanks heaps
