: : Hi,
: : Can anyone offer some next steps/advice?

: : I'm running Windows XP.

: : I installed a Western 100 Gig hard drive (OK I was tired of running out of space and it was on sale).

: : I went to the Storage - Disk Management section where this Wizard was supposed to come up and walk me through the questions. Nope. It just shows I have a 32 Gig hard drive ...

: : I entered CMOS Setup and selected autodetect IDE devices. Nothing changed.

: : Now I am at a loss. I have lots of space and normally I could live with that but it doesn't seem right some how.

: : So ... do I pull it out and try again? Reformat the the drive (nothing on it)? or is there another option?

: : Can you/anyone offer some advice on next steps?

: It sounds like your BIOS supports HDDs up to 32 GB. Suggest that you get an ATA/66 card; it will support HDDs up to about 128 GB and it will be plenty fast unless the sustained data transfer rate of your HDD is a lot more than 66 MB/sec (It isn't). You can use an ATA/100 or ATA/133 card if you want to (about 2x and 4x the cost) but you are not likely to perceive any speed difference since the onboard cache is empty after about twenty (20) MILLIseconds (0.020 second) at 100 MB/sec.

: Suggest that you check microsoft for fdisk, format and scandisk updates - seems like there were some large HDD issues with one or more of them. Also check maximum partition size supported by your OS.
