: : What version of amibios do I need for 40GB 7200rpm hard drive?
: : I have a 400Mhz Packard Bell system.

: When you start the computer at the top left of the screen it will tell you what version bios to use, at the bottom left the long string of numbers and letters is the code for your motherboard and Bios verson, press the pause button to stop the boot proces.

: A good site to go to is,

: and download AMIBIOS Motherboard ID Utility

: There is a link at the top of the page for AMIBios.

: Hope this helps.

: Peter

You generally need to get a (free) BIOS update from the mainboard maker or the PC maker's web site. Peter has indicated how to go about figuring out the board maker.

If you cannot figure out who made the board or if there is no BIOS update available - just use an ATA/66 card. It will support HDDs up to about 128 GB.
