: I recently did a clean install of Win XP using NTFS format (as advised by a tech magazine).
: I now want to uninstall it and have my win 98se and Win xp on the same hardrive (CD recording reasons).
: I tried to reformat and had no luck-only formatted by data partition. I tried to use fdisk and I thought that I was in luck after reinstalling xp and reformatting the hardrive using fat (quick) during the process.
: After reinstalling both I find that I have 3 windows directories is winxp, win 98 and winxp setup.
: How can I rid myself of the setup directory?
: Have I successfully reformatted the hardrive using the xp install format fat 32 or do I have to do it again?

Easy...I fixed it.
I did reformat it back to original - after second installation.
All I had to do was reinstall WinXP, go through the dialogues, choose FAT formatting and after insallation, fdisk and reformat again and now I have a 32 bit hardrive. The WINXP setup entry when starting up was fixed with another fdisk, reformat, install Win98se again and then reinstalling Win XP without accidently pressing the key when dialogue comes up asking 'Do you want to boot from CD...' after rebooting the first time during the WinXP setup. All fixed.
It took fdisk x 3, formatting x 3. Yahoo!
Who said that you can't convert NFTS back to FAT 32!
