: Hi Tom,
: Reformatting and partitioning is not that hard. You need the floppy disk for your hard drive, your bios on a CD and Windows, plus a few hours or more depending on the size of your hardrive and the speed of your CPU.
: But before I would get into that, I would not bother doing any of that unless you have plenty of memory. My reasoning is all that you describe is most likely due to lack of memory. It was understandable for computer stores to be a little tight on memory when it was $1.50 or more per MB, but now that good Micron memory can be bought for about $25.00 for a stick of PC100 of 128 MB, DIMM. This is what I would start with.
: Also, you can search your help, or the Internet for FDISK, this is the command that formats your hardrive. If you have plenty of memory and need help, Email me and we can set a time off list to reformat and partition your drive.

Oh please let me in on how to do this. I need all the same information. I'm using my computer at work because it's the computer at home that I messed up....or rather my 14yr old did and I only made it worse by trying to fix it. So I formatted it and in preparation of starting from scratch and learning the hard way.
