: : : I am trying to reformat the hard drive on a 200MHZ pentium. I booted to a floppy. At the A prompt I typed in Fdisk. Then I deleted the primary partition. Clicked on creating a partition of the whole drive 4GI.The format started at about 4% a message said "trying to recover allocation unit" then "not ready" format terminated. Need help. What did I do wrong, or is my hard drive bad.

: : I have the same problem. It seems that I have system commander installed and it stops you from FDISK working. You can no longer format the drive. If someone has a utility that will allow a complete format of a hard drive regardless of the protected files from installed software I would sure like to find it.

: I also have the same problem can someone pls tell me a solution for it. The msg format terminated appears after 5% plz help me. Mail me at jango_2000_sg@yahoo.com...

I had this problem and the only way I could get round it was to delete the primary dos partition and create a new one. The new one is only about 60% of the disk space. This seems to format ok now.
