Colin is basically right but BEFORE you run the defragmenter for a couple of hours, do a SCANDISK to correct any problems on the hard drive. Running Defrag BEFORE Scandisk results in hours of work which should only take 15-20 min.

PS: Plus if there are problems on the hard drive, Defrag will stop and tell you and start over. Turn off all screen savers and running programs before doing ScanDisk or Defrag.
