Typing vol at any dos prompt shows the volume name
and serial number. Typing label allows you to change the disk name but not the volume serial number.

In order to change the volume serial number you
need a program written just for that purpose and some I have seen will work on FAT16 HD but not on
FAT32 HD and if you try using on a fat32 system it will mess up the drive and takes an expert to put it back in shape again
