If the drive is internal try going to your sys bios, (ie pressing del at startup)
and go to "IDE HDD Auto Detection" or something simerlar, it should find the hard drive.
If it is a second Drive, and pluged in as an Primary drive, make sure it is set to "Slave"


I'm sorry I don't know what to do if it is external, try the same bios thing, but it could be a faulty HD.
