: I bought a computer at a yard sale. To get passed setup, I have to enter a password. Unfortunatly, he man I bought it from forgot the password, so I can't do anything. Is there a way I can erase the hard drive so I can re-install everything? Please help!

When does the password come up. A few seconds after you turn the computer on? If so then this is a BIOS password. All of the computers I've worked on have a BIOS password override jumper on its motherboard. You need to find the manual for the motherboard and find this jumper. Putting this jumper on clears the CMOS and passwords
