I am using an Avatar Shark 250 parallel hard drive. When I upgraded from Windows 95 to Windows 98, my Shark Drive would not function until I downloaded a new driver (file Win98131.exe) found on 29 December 1999.

Everything worked fine until about April 2000 when one of my 9 Shark 250MB disks caused my computer to freeze. I had to turn off the power to escape the freeze. All other 8 disks worked normally.

In early July 2000 three more of my Shark disks caused my computer to freeze, requiring me to turn off the power to escape. I tried everything else, but there was no other way out.

When I tried to ScanDisk these bad drives, they froze my computer. I could neither defragment the bad drives nor ScanDisk them. Defragment and ScanDisk would start, but at about 18,000 to 22,000 the computer would freeze. I even formatted one of the bad disks, but in ScanDisk it again froze my computer.

My other 5 Shark disks are functioning normally so far.

All of my Shark disks have been carefully protected from physical damage. No one uses them but me.

Can anyone help me to understand why these 4 Shark disks are freezing my computer while the other 5 Shark disks are still functioning normally?
