Not sure if you've conquered this yet or not but here's what I did to get my pcmcia shark working with W2K successfully.

Here's the link to the drivers if you need them. Download the pcmicia version for NT4.0.

Print the README.TXT. These instructions for NT 4.0 will work for W2K also, except you need to know where to adjust your system resources. As the document states, make sure your PCMCIA is enabled and active. Go to Add/Remove Hardware and remove anything relating to Avatar or Shark so you remove any old configurations you've tried. Then, very important, before you insert the shark drive make sure to install a SCSI controller first by going to Add/Remove Hardware - goto Have Disk and point to the shark drivers. Once this is done go ahead and reboot with the shark drive inserted in the PCMCIA slot. If your system doesn't already have it installed, it will try to install a PCMCIA ATAPI / IDE controller. LET IT. Don't worry your shark drive still won't work at this point. Go to : Settings - Administrative Tools - Computer Management - Device Manager. Then expand the IDE ATA / ATAPI Controllers. You should see a PCMCIA ATAPI / IDE controller. Double click it and go to the Resources Tab. Make sure the "use automatic settings" is unchecked. Then under "Interupt Request", scroll to an IRQ that says it's not in conflict. Then under "Input / Output Range" scroll up an select range "0970-097F". If everything works correctly at this point, you may see your shark drive starting up and appear under your My Computer resources. If not, try one more reboot with these new settings. If not, check the Event Viewer for error reports and go to your Device Manager again to check to see if IRQ was available. Sometimes you may need to experiment with the IRQ resources. Ususually you can try 3 or 9 first. Mine is at 3 and working perfectly on a Dell CPx HP500 Pentium III. Good Luck.

: does anyone have a solution for this? has anyone
: got their drive working in 2000? I have a pcmcia
: version and have had no luck. I have included a
: link to a page that according to this person has
: had success in getting their drive to work. It
: didn't work for me, well it did in the sense that
: Win2000 recognises the pcmcia card, but the drive
: does not show up in My Computer.

: I don't want to lose the use of my Shark. They are
: just too cool.
