I have a Quantum Fireball Plus LM 15 gig 7200 rpm drive. It is brand new, as well as the motherbaord, an Amptron 598LMR with a SiS 530 chipset. Both are supposed to support Ultra Dma 66. I have an UDMA 80 pin cable which I beleive is installed correctly (with the blue end to the motherboard ide channel 1 and the end of the cable to the fireball drive which is in cable select mode). I have a cdrom attached to the ide channel 2. UDMA support is enabled in my bios, which i updated to the newest version, and the drive is running in udma 66 mode (checked this via a quantum software utility...have also tried it in 33 mode). When the bios loads, it says both hard drive and cd rom are in pio mode 4 (i set pio mode to auto in bios) and the fireball is in dma mode 4 (dma mode 2 for cdrom). Windows installs fine. It installs the Generic IDE DIsk Type 47 driver for the drive, and a SiS 5513 Dual PCI IDE Controller driver for the hard disk controller. I should mention, it's Win 98 SE> I look at the drive properties and check the DMA box, which is unchecked, and the I get an unsupported hardware warning. I click OK, and then OK again. Then thing is, though, that the DMA box will not stay checked. If I restart, it will be unchecked. Even if I just go look back at the properties right after I check the box, it will have already unchecked itself. Any ideas on what might be wrong here? Thanks for any help.
