: : : how to remove bad sectors from hdd

: : You cannot remove bad sectors you can mark them unusable. Run Windows Scandisk, with the thorough option select. Scandisk will identify bad sectors and mark them unusable. You should follow this with a defrag. It this does not solve your problem than third party software like Partion Magic or Norton Utilities do a great job of identifying and marking bad sectors.

: From what I understand (and have been hesitating to do myself since I've been acquiring "bad sectors" lately), the only way to actually get rid (or restore) your bad sectors is to wipe out your hard drive completely and reinstall everything. Of course, do a back up of your current stuff so you can stick it all back in. As mentioned, I haven't had the guts to try this yet (nor have I figured out how to do a complete wipe of my HD--and I assume even a "blank" hard drive has some sort of way to start [re]installing an OS (so you can reinstall the rest of the stuff)???
