I have a similar problem, I have the HOT591P motherboard and creative soundblaster live 5.1, I have cracks and pops all the time. I can barely listen to mp3s, and the sound is bad in most games. I have an AMD 500 with 196MB RAM and a 64MB Geforce2 video card, it's driving me crazy. Nothing I do changes anything. I think the sound card is picking up noise off the motherboard. Someone please find a solution to this and e-mail me. I have given up.
: : Problem = pops and crackles when capturing sound and video, running game cutscenes and recording wavs in 16bit 44hz stereo.
: : Solution = disable UDMA on all drives - this works but drive is terribly slow. I have the latest VIA drivers for my motherboard.
: : The sound does not corrupt when UDMA is enabled just on the hard drive but the drive is only slightly faster than without it enabled. It seems that the hard drive is not at its optimum unless DMA is enabled for the CD-ROM Drive.

: hi Tortoise... i too experinced a similiar problem with my
: soundblaster live card. when recording with the recorder i
: would hear clicks and pops. the solution was to disable the
: UDMA 33 for my hard drives. updating the soundblaster live
: software did not clear up the problem. i have a shuttle hot591p
: motherboard, an IBM and Fujitsu hard drive, creative riva tnt
: agp videocard, and a soundblaster live. i did all the updates
: for my motherboard from the shuttle site. anyone with a possible
: solution for this problem, please share it. thanx
