This is probably a really stupid question, but how do you know which is the best driver to use? Is it just trial and error?

I have a NeoMagic Magicgraph 128XD in an HP Omnibook 2100, and hope to improve performance - searches bring up dozens of drivers, but rarely information on how old they are - until you download them, anyway.

How do I know which to use?
