Update!!!

I've had a sh*tl*ad of responses to my statements. Mostly people needing help. If anyone needs more help, just email, or if someone else out there with a similar laptop is having problems, (or if someone else has it working) and wants me to put a page up [ Compaq 1200 12XL423 ] I have answers for divx playback, win2k installs, linux (mandrake, redhat[roothat], slackware, etc.)

The Win2k problems were NOT associated with the video or drivers. Linux IS possible with these cards. XFree is a b*tch for ANY card. higher resolutions WITHOUT using the FrameBuffer device _are_ possible for X under linux. if you want higher resolution for console mode though, you'll need fb mode. no biggie. What do you need a high refresh rate for anyways? B*tchX? Lynx? bah.
