If its a PCI onboard chip its very old because they are usually AGP, so as you wont have a vacant AGP slot to attach a card to you have to disable the onboard chip in the BIOS, but its unlikely to have that option for its age, these boards are commonly completely un-upgradeable as you are discovering. I think you need a new board and an AGP card, you will be very disappointed with the PCI results for that sort of game which demands fairly high end sprcs to run well.
