i thought i was the only one! hell, i even spent $100 replacing my motherboard!

goddamn savage!

BTW, my card says 'DH Savage 4', what kind is this? I got it from a friend.

anyway, i just saw that a bunch of you are having the same problem. the card worked fine in my old AMD K6 system, but in my new system (Athlon XP 1600+, 384mb DDR) it just shows the mouse cursor, then locks up! i have to uninstall the drivers and use Standard VGA.

i have to say i'm relieved to be sure it's the card, and not the system.

has ANYONE found a way around this problem?

I have been using the latest 82038 drivers. this really pisses me off.

by the way. i think i know WHY. i think it's the DDR ram. i remember on my other board (same board, PC Chips 830LR, but i actually broke the AGP slot trying to force in the card when i got mad :(), i first used normal crap ram. like PC66 DIMMs, and it worked fine. i put in the DDR DIMMs a week or two later, and it worked fine still for about 6 days. then i turned off the computer to change the IDE cable, and it wouldn't start anymore. i think i broke more than just the AGP slot, so with my new board, i now get the "normal" problem that some of you have gotten where it gets to the mouse cursor, then just locks up.

my BIOS has the memory thing for the video set at 64, and AGP 4X enabled.

that said, maybe there's no other solution than to just buy a new card. any suggestions on good cards around $150 or under? bah. i didn't want it to have to come to this.
