All things graphic are decided by your driver, for instance the TNT chips is made by Nvidia but other makers use that chipset on their board, their own board may have added\different functionality so they produce a driver, then there is a driver from Creative for their version of the card but Nvidia's driver(the chip makers)is known as a reference driver, currently they say Detonator 3 drivers work better than anothers.
I have a Nvidia chip on my card but its made by Hercules, detonator drivers are ok but Hercules own are much better, I get better colour, speed, resolution etc; But only if you have the correct version of Direct X installed, which are M$ drivers that the cards drivers all work with to produce the final image.
(its actually far more complex than this, but its a brief resume)
