: I recently had to reinstall Win98 on my Pentium 200, which has a SiS 5597/5598 onboard vga chip.
I recently upgraded the memory in my HP Pavilion 6356 which has a SiS 5597/5598. I am getting garbled characters on the screen from time to time. Random sort of stuff. Occasionally I get a block that does not refresh right.

Any suggestions on how I fix this? I presume it has something to do with the shared memory architecture. I went from 2 32 MB modules to 1 128 MB module PC133 SDRAM.

Before I reinstalled I was using the drivers which came on the CD (which I have since lost) for the motherboard and had no problems. When I reinstalled I went to the website and downloaded the appropriate drivers. Now everything works fine, EXCEPT when I change to 480x600 resolution, whereupon the signal becomes garbled (wavy coloured lines). Any help would be greatly appreciated.
