: I have a Dell Dimension 4100 running Windows 98, which I am using only for business. Bought it in early 2001. It has an NVIDIA TNT2 M64 4xAGP. The software version is, if this matters. I have none of the high-powered games discussed in this forum (too bad for me). I am merely running Excel, Word, Access, IE, and a simple construction accounting program that stores its data in a huge Access file.

: My computer freezes up at random times. It can freeze at any time of day or night, whether I'm using it or not. I can be in the middle of typing something, and the pointer just freezes in place. It will freeze in the middle of the night when no one is using it and no programs are being used. There is no particular pattern to when it freezes.

: Under graphics acceleration, I have lowered it to "basic accelerator functions," which means I could lower it one more to "no accelerator functions." Haven't tried this yet.

: It freezes about once every two days. Any ideas on how I can eliminate this problem?

Well I dont believe it is your video card. It could be a few things one you have downloaded a 1.shareware program poorley written.
2.MAybe signs of a hard drive failure near.
3.Maybe lack of proper cooling/airflow.

If this just stared happing after you have upgraded a video card.... I would go with additional cooling ,,,ither the video board or the cpu is getting to hot. ( these are easy to install and do wonders.....)

Good luck.
