The green lines at the top of the screen are associated with ATI cards. Some sites refer to it as the "green line of death". I found your problem interesting in the hardware that you mention. I recently replaced an S3 based video card with an older ATI Rage XT video card and started with the green line problem. I found that all of the old S3 drivers appeared to still be registered in the registry and listed under the display driver section of hardware when I looked at the systems device drivers. Removing all but the ATI driver has appeared to solve the problem. It hasn't crashed for a week. You will have to start the computer in SAFE mode to accomplish this.

: I have a Compaq Presario 4540 and an S3 Trio 64V2 775/785 cam onboard it. I put an ATI XPert98 in there and when I try to do something in a DOS window and put it in a fullscreen it freezes and there is always these little green line atop of the screen. WHAT CAN I DO ABOUT THAT??? HELP ME! my e-mail is PLEASE HELP!
