here is the deal:

i am running a p2 350 64 meg ram with an 8 meg voodoo 2 windows 98, it is a Gateway PC

i cant change my screen resolution. it is stuck on 640x480 on 16 colour. My
display card is a STB Velocity 128. when i change the resolution and reboot
i get this message when i log in:

"There is a problem with your display setting. The adapter type is
incorrect, or the current settings do not work with your hardware."

i go to control panel/device manager/display and click on the STB Velocity
128 properties. i click on 'update driver' and point it to look on my system
CD where the drivers are. it says that it has found new drivers of a
'Standard PCI graphics adapter (VGA)' or something close to that, and installs the
drivers. reboot. The display is now running on 'Standard PCI graphics adapter (VGA)'. i
still cant change the resolution. i go to control panel/device
manager/display and click on properties. i click on update driver again and
point it to the system CD. it says that it locates drivers for the STB
Velocity 128, i install them and reboot. my display is now running again on
the STB card. i change the resolution and reboot. i get the same message,
and when i go to update the drivers, i get the 'Standard PCI graphics adapter (VGA)' device
thingy. it takes me around in circles. i look on my system CD for a manual
for installing it but it only has how to install for windows 95 and NT 4.0.
funny enough i was sold this system with 98 how considerate

anyone got any ideas? i am currently trawling the net for updated drivers
but cant find any.

i cant install any of my games because they require the display to be
running on 256 colours. this means no more games for me till this thing works :(
