: I have a great scanner (HP Scanjet 5P)it is fast, it's
: SCSI.(Symbios Logic 53C416)
: Those guys at HP won't make a driver for Windows XP.
: The SCSI is ISA and the PC is an Athelon 1.2G with a
: KK266-Plus mother board and 256M-RAM.
: The actual copy/scan software went right in and so far each of the programs opens up but then, there is that pop-up box saying "there is no scanner connected or another program is useing it for the moment".
: The best I can make of all this is I need a 'driver program' for the copy/scan software to talk to the SCSI, well I'm not sure but I'm determined not to give up my scanner!

Hey there is a Win 2000 driver availiable from symbios logic. which also works with XP (at least for me).

ftp://ftp.lsil.com/pub/symchips/scsi/drivers/53C416_Drivers/Win2k/416w2k.zip

but be careful and make a backup first! If you install this driver and the driver from hp XP will
probably not start anymore, even not in the "protected mode" (is it called in english that way?). Deinstall all the HP stuff and choose "other card" in the HP setup, if you want to install the HP-Tools (like the copy program). However, the copy program and the scan utility from HP do not work properly anymore. I am using the XP Camera and Scanner-Assistant at the moment, but I am looking for a proper Copy utility.

Good luck!
Hartmut
