Dear Jim,
it seems that this procedure is available only for the intel chipset. I mean, tha ata66 is off by default on intel chipset THAT SUPPORTS IT. Now, I have Abit Hot Rod 66, and I own it cause my motherboard's chipset is BX, that DOES NOT SUPPORT dma66. With this procedure will I enable dma66 for the abit hot ROD? eh? I have linked, as primary master, a western digital ac29100D (dma66), secondary master Pioneer DVD-116 (dma66), and primary master on mobo an old Samsung SV0844A (dma33). Now it takes about 10 MINUTES to copy 600 mbyte from CD to Western Digital, while on Windows ME it takes about 3 minutes!
Now I come to Mike: dear friend, you have to update your controller PCI bios to the latest version (actually 1.28Beta), and then, after installing Windows XP (During OS installation you have to push F6 when asked if you had a SCSI controller, and then put the diskette with Windows 2000 driver onto the floppy drive), you have to upgrade the operative system with the latest driver too; the last release is 1.28BETA. You can download them from http://www.highpoint-tech.com. Now your OS will work, but I doubt that your drives speed will be very elevate. In the Microsoft knowledge base the suggest to download the latest driver for Abit Hot Rod 66 (with chipset hpt366) from abit server, but they're out of date. We only can hope that they will made them available as soon as possible.
Hi!
