IDE controller driver ?

HI, I don't know if this is the right place, but I'm desperate, so I'll try anyway. A few days ago I tried to install a CD-writer/burner on my PC, but all I obtained was a conflict after which my D: drive disappeared. I tried it as a master, slave, I disinstalled it, I reinstalled my old, functioning CD-Rom, I uninstalled both CD-Rom and burner, I tried changing the bios, rebooting with a floppy, all in vain. Much like Kristyn, I have a feeling that the IDE controller has something to do with this, because since then it keeps showing me a ! next to it, saying I have problem with my "primary IDE controller (single fifo)", as well as the secondary. I think I might need to re-install an IDE controller driver, but where can I find it ? And which type ? I mean, ANY driver is good, or should I consider that my processor is an INTEL (Pentium II 266), or that my HD is a Samsung, or that I use Win 95, or that my CD-burner is a Traxdata/Philips...please somebody help, because NOBODY seems to be able to...
