I have EXACTLY the same problem, except that i have the MVP3 instead of the MVP4 and my HD is a Seagate 320413A...

i tried all sorts of VIA drivers (old ones, new ones, beta ones, ones from the stone age ;) ) still no effect. Ok, the MVP3 does only UDMA33 while the drive Supports UDMA100, but i have the same lousy performance as you have...

Either its that the MVP chipsets (or the VIA Drivers) aren't VIA's mothers finest, or it's kind of other troble. I'm still on it, and if i find a solution, i'll contact you!

PS: Has the problem always existed or did it appear after installing the new HD, or upgrading to Win98SE? This would help me out in the 'VIA Busmaster Driver research'...;) thx
