Have I parked my IDE HD?

Not knowing it was wrong until after the fact, I daisychained 2 G4's and a G3 via firewire cables to copy the G3 HD data over to a new G4. The receiving G4 had its original Quantum Fireball Plus and a second 30Gb QF+ installed. But when I had finished copying the data and rebooted the G4 the secondary, receiving HD wasn't recognised.
I've tried booting from the system disk, an OS9.1 installer disk, using FWB Hard Disk Toolkit (although I couldn't find a bootabe disk for this), and getting a colleague to try to reformat it from within his pc. No luck at all.
It's been suggested that because I daisychained without a server in the loop, I may have overheated the drive and parked the heads.
I know what the term meaans, but not being that technical, I don't know what else to do about this. I'm not bothered about the data loss from reformatting the drive, but I can't see the thing to do that. Has anyone got any good ideas?
They would be much appreciated.
