I don't know the specifics of your problem but I had a similar error and set-up and fixed it by switching the CR-R and CD between master and slave. I don't know why but it worked but it did. I exchanged email with someone else on this board who had the same problem and suggested this fix.

Both of us were running Windows 98 and the BIOS was recognizing the CDs although Device Manager wouldn't.

: Windows explorer does not show either my cd drives.

: The system device manager shows a yellow ! on the secondary IDE controller.

: My cd-rom and my cd-r do not work.

: Help!
