I have had problems in the past getting a new drive installed with either an on-board or PCI Ultra DMA IDE controller. My fix is to attach the new drive to a STANDARD IDE port, FDISK it, format it, install operating system, then install whatever drivers are required for the ultra DMA device. After the O/S shows the new UDMA device in device manager (usually as a SCSI adapter), I shut down and connect the new drive to the first UDMA port, and reboot.

Hope this helps some of you out!
