I came across the following instructions from the Promise Support site with regards to Bus Master Drivers for VIA chipset for the Promise Ultra100 Controllers.
To my knowledge, there are 2 types of Bus Master Drivers provided by VIA, the Filter Driver and the Miniport Driver. The Filter driver is installed by default for Windows 2000. One can choose to seperately download and install the Miniport driver though.
The question is, which one should I use for Windows 2000? I am confused. The documentation stops short of mentioning which one to be used. I'm concerned about the recent instability of the system of files getting corrupted frequently and I suspect this to be the use of the inappropriate drivers.
Please advise. Thanks.

Installing Bus Master drivers for VIA or SIS Chipsets in Windows 95/98/98SE/NT4.0/2000
Via (VIA Technologies Inc.), SIS (Silicon Integrated Systems), and ALI (Acer Labs Inc.), System Chipsets have their own Bus Master driver, IRQ Routing Patch, and PCI Bridge Patch. These drivers and patches were a necessity on Windows 95, but they are also needed on Windows 98/98SE/NT4.0/2000 when applicable. These drivers help the Operating System properly identify the components of the Chipset on the motherboard. Some of these components include your Hard Disk Controller, USB Controller, and PCI Bridges to name a few. Also the registry is updated with vital IRQ Routing tables and Miniport Data. Not having these drivers and patches installed can result in unpredictable behavior and strange problems that come and go while using the Operating System. Always install the proper drivers and patch for your particular Chipset and Southbridge Controller. Below is a List of URL's where these drivers and patches can be downloaded.
Note: you should always attempt to use the drivers that have been provided by the motherboard or computer manufacture. Also the Chipset drivers should always be install immediately following a CLEAN INSTALL OF THE OPERATING SYSTEM AND BEFORE ANY OTHER DEVICE DRIVERS ARE INSTALLED.
