Just bought a new HP 7955 system with WinXP pre-installed.Hooked up a deskjet 880c and a scanjet 3200c (piggybacked together)
and booted up. The printer was found and it used the drivers located on the installation CD, no problem. Then another "new hardware found" came up,
but it didn't specify that it was the scanner that was found, only asked for " VID_04E6 PID_80000040 ". The installation CD failed to yield it, as did a diskette
containing updated drivers that I obtained from HP several months ago.
The only download found at HP is for upgrading from Win98 to XP, and will not run on a full XP system.
And since the scanjet's Precisionscan Software won't even install (says it won't work with NT/XP) I am at a stalemate. :o(
Device manager shows the VID_04E6 PID_80000040 listed under "Other Devices" and says it's working properly?? How can it work properly when it doesn't even know what it is and there's no software isntalled for that device? *lol*

Has anyone found a solution for this oddball problem yet?
(I saw the other post concerning a fix at HP, but it was for Win2000 rather than XP)

: I keep getting the same message with Windows XP.
: I also have a umax 1220P scanner. I installed the drivers and that message pops up. I changed my lpt1 port to lpt2, and the message keeps coming up. I even turned off the feature of the intall wizard and it still comes up.
: I would really like to know what this thing is.
: Thanks
