: Did you ever get a solution to this problem?

: I have exactly the same issue with a UMAX 1220P

: Cheers,

: Mike

: : I have an HP scanner. I recently moved (didn't change anything on my computer; I'm a computer idiot so I don't change things.

: : Now when I boot up, it tells me (Windows2000) that I have new hardware (?) and it shows this message VID_04E6 PID_80000040 and wants me to install the new hardware.

: : My biggest problem is, I don't know what hardware (Windows doesn't find it) the VID file goes with. It shows this error every time on startup.

: : Can anyone help me?

: : Nina

I have the same problem relating to an external HP CD burner with a different file. VID_04E6_80000020. I tried changing the LPT port from LPT1 to LPT2 but the install scenario started all over again on LPT2. I' still looking for the 80000020 driver.
You can keep this from happening evety time you start Win2K by choosing the disable option during the Hardware Wizard install process.
