same here on my dell inspiron 8000. i've been "living with it" for the past 6 months or so.. recently got my drive rma'd cause diagnostics was showing errors. they sent me a new 40GN to replace my 32GH. i thought this might fix the event log errors, but no such luck. i noticed in device manager that the drive was running in pio mode rather than dma. dell's site doesn't offer any ide controller drivers so i used windows update to get them. the drive now runs in ultra dma mode but the event log errors are STILL there. actually i never used to get the parity error before.. but i am getting it now since i updated the controller drivers. sorry if you thought this was leading somewhere.. in the end i still have those damn event log messages. like you said, it doesn't cause any noticeable problems.. but i still have a bad feeling about it. i love how dell support told you to go back to Me or live with it. they basically tell me the same thing too everytime i email for support. i've also heard that they put the dvd drive on the same ide channel as the hdd.. effectively dropping your ata100 drive down to ata33 level (if this is true). such is life..

by the way.. i think i'm gonna try disable write cache on the drive to see if this helps.

: I get the same error on my dell inspiron 8000 but everything works fine, I called dell and they told me to take it back to windows me or live with it, the dell diagnostics disk test everything with a passing grade, and as with the other post it hasn't alwasy been there it just started doing it ????
