No such thing as a generic optical drive, look on the back plate where it warns its a class one laser device the name of the maker is there, you have an OEM drive which it is unlawful in the UK to sell without software. Drivers are not required.
You can always update your software, the version you have even if only a month old will already have an update that adds recognition of newer drives.
Or go to and download a fully functioning, totally free burner, last count there was 7 available.
