I just got the same problem. I have a Sony Vaio RS503 with an Echo Layla 3G card. I've tried updating all drivers, direct X etc. No luck.

It seems very strange and am loath to re-install

: I think it is a hardware problem and here's why.
: I was running Windows XP Pro installed from XP CD not the toshiba CD. It worked fine for a few months then the problem started. Soon after my hard drive failed. I replaced the drive with a spare I had (12GB) and installed a FRESH copy of Windows XP. The slow sound problem persisted.
: I recently ordered a new 40GB drive, installed it, but this time I ran the Toshiba Tecra S1 CD for reinstalling Windows. Immediatly after the installation, the sound was still playing slow. Reboots do not resolve the problems, only a complete shut down and then turn back on.

: I am running the latest BIOS.

: Any help is appreciated,
: Andre
