If I was a betting man, then I would probably say that the laptop is set to boot from the hard drive before the Cd drive. This would mean that the computer would always boot from the hard drive as it contains win 98. To correct this go into the bios and change the boot order, so that the cd drive boots before the Hard drive. If this is not an option, then you would need to wipe the hard drive in order to boot from the cd. Caution some Linux cds are not boot disks, they require a separate boot floppy. Also make sure while you’re on the Acer site, to down load all the Linux drivers.
