Hello John and N8 -
I recently acquired a CTX Ezbook 700 series laptop cuzit has a few problems and was given to me for free. The laptop will not read from the cd rom all of the time (only reads sometimes and IS recognized by the BIOS all the time). I wiped the hard drive clean thinking that was the problem and wanted to start from scratch will a clean copy of WIn 98. Since the cd rom only reads for a little while, I can't even run setup from the cd. When I boot to DOS and access the cd rom, it reads the directory. But when I try to run setup, the cd rom keeps spinning and that's it. Also, I noticed that if I take out the cd rom and put the battery in, it will not even charge.
I want to FLASH the BIOS cuz I think this may be the problem. I see that both of you guys had some chat about this. Did you ever get it to work is my question. If so, maybe you can give me some pointers on where to find the flash software from Systemsoft for the 430TX chipset. It is systemsoft 1.23.11. Any advice for be greatly appreciated. Right now I can do nothing since the cd rom is not working.
: To make a boot floopy with a win 9X system:
: Go to DOS (i suggest true dos via reboot) and type "format /s" (enter). At promt, place a blank floppy in drive and press enter.
: Or you could just download a boot image from bootdisk.com. (for xp/me users)
: That file list has a autoexec.bat file in it, so it is going to update your bios without asking if you place that on a boot disk and boot system!!!
: You may want to examine the autoexec.bat file with a text viewer/editor and see what it is doing. (..like notepad)
: I would try uniflash first to backup BIOS.....
: If Uniflash does not work, You may want to consider removing the autoexec.bat from the boot/update floppy and execute Flashit.exe file manually? (like you said)
: Perhaps type " Flashit /?" or "Flashit ?" for a help or menu that would provide a backup method.
: Once you have backe up the BIOS you could put the autoexec.bat back on the boot-floppy and let it flash. (you may want to say a quick prayer first ;-) )
: Did you read the "update.txt" file for clues?
: : hello.
: : i have a ctx ezbook 700e and when i upgraded from windows 95 to 98se it started having some problems recognizing my battery. i think this is because of an old bios.
: : currently i am using intel 430tx version 1.01 sub-version 1.18.00p. since ctx stopped supporting their laptops a few years ago i have had to search the internet and have found a systemsoft update for the 430tx chipset: systemsoft version 1.23.11. i have extracted these files to a floppy disk. the files are as follows:
: : autoexec.bat
: : bios.rom
: : config.prg
: : flashit.exe
: : history.txt
: : veridata.com
: : i am planning on restarting my computer, putting this disk in the a: drive and running flashit.exe. does this sound like the correct procedure?
: : i have read somewhere that i need to create a boot disk and then copy these files onto it. as of now i haven't been able to figure out how to do that.
: : and finally, how do i backup my current version of the bios in case it doesn't work?
: : thanks so much for your help,
: : john
