Check your jumper settings on the hard drive (single, master, slave) to see if it's set correctly. If so, has your BIOS been upgraded to the latest version? Check with the manufacturer of your computer or motherboard to see if there is an upgrade. If all that has been done, there is a chance you may have a defective drive.
